The Wide Range Intelligence Test is a highly reliable individually administered battery of four sub-tests of cognitive abilities and its use is not restricted to qualified psychologists. It assesses both verbal and non-verbal abilities by means of Verbal and Visual Scales. Each scale consists of two sub-tests each addressing a group of specific abilities of school relevance.
Verbal items are all oral with no reading or writing involved. Verbal IQ measures the functioning of the left hemisphere of the brain which is the hemisphere usually responsible for speech and language whilst the Performance IQ measures the functioning of the right hemisphere which is usually responsible for practical, creative, artistic and visual thinking skills.
