Diagnostic Spelling Tests (DST) is a series of easy-to-administer spelling tests that go beyond identifying if a learner can correctly spell a word. The assessment identifies the root cause of spelling difficulties including the certain aspects of spelling learners are finding difficult.
Each of the five tests has a parallel form, carefully matched in content and difficulty, simplifying tracking progress after a period of intervention.
- Understand what aspects of spelling have been covered in their lessons.
- Determine if individuals or groups are finding certain aspects of spelling difficult to learn.
DST has been standardised against a representative sample to enable you to determine if a learner or group is behind their peers or performing at the same level.
- Analyse spelling patterns that learners can use effectively and those in which they may need further practice and teaching.
- Adapt your lesson plans to support learners in the areas they need to improve.
Provided in the manual, follow-up tests empower you to focus on a specific spelling structure and understand where learners need to improve.
- Understand if a particular spelling structure is preventing learners from understanding how to spell certain words.
- Adjust your lesson plans accordingly and develop a learner's spelling ability in the area they need it.
With the standardised test scores, you can gather data on a learner's spelling ability and how they compare.
- Convert raw scores into a Spelling Age, Percentiles and Standardised scores.
- Discover what errors are being made in the misspelled words and which kinds of words are being misspelled or spelled correctly.
