Qualification Level:

Purpose: The Test of Retrieval Efficiency (TORE) measures the ability of an individual to retrieve simple data at speed.

Admin: The key advantage of this test is that it can be administered to small groups of children and young people, making it highly beneficial for classroom settings. In contrast, traditional analogue tests, particularly rapid naming tasks, must be conducted individually.

This group-based approach enhances efficiency, allowing up to ten individuals to be assessed simultaneously, saving valuable time.

Details

The Test of Retrieval Efficiency (TORE) is a norm-referenced test designed to measure the speed at which an individual can retrieve simple information accurately and rapidly from long-term memory, and then record their answer. TORE offers the flexibility to be administered either one-on-one or in group settings, making it adaptable to different learning environments. This allows educators to efficiently assess multiple learners simultaneously while still providing the option for focused, individualised evaluation when needed. It is suitable for ages between 13 and 18.

Key Benefits of TORE:

• Identifies individuals with slow processing speed: TORE is specifically designed to identify those who struggle to retrieve information quickly.
• Efficient for group testing: You can assess a group of ten learners per adult overseer.
• Suitable for assessing learners with English as an Additional Language (EAL) as it does not require the learner to verbalise the answer.
• It provides you with two subtests and a composite, all with excellent reliability.
• It is a pencil and paper test, so you don't have to worry about Wi-Fi, access to a computer, or an iPad.

Who is TORE for?

TORE is available for use by professionals with a Level 7 qualification relating to individual specialist assessment. This qualification should include formal training in several key areas:
• Understanding the theoretical basis underlying psychometric tests.
• Scoring and test statistics.
• Administration and interpretation of psychometric tests.
